Mattax2012 In practice in Springfield since 1988,James B. Mattax, Jr., MD, FACS, received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1983. He also served a residency in ophthalmic surgery there in conjunction with Parkland Hospital from 1983 to 1987. From 1987-1988, he was an instructor and Fellow in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at Southwestern Medical School.
